FAQ
How do I go about adopting a puppy?
If you are interested in a puppy, please fill out the adoption form located on my website in detail. The information you supply will help me decide if a Goldendoodle is right for you, and what puppy would suit your needs. If your adoption form is approved, I will contact you and request a $300 deposit to reserve a puppy. Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE, unless I am unable to offer you a pup within one year of the date of your deposit. If you cancel your pup, you may lose your deposit unless you choose to apply your deposit to a pup born at a later date.  Your deposit will be lost if you cancel at the last minute and I have already booked and paid for flights.

How do you decide which puppy is best for me?
I make decisions on which puppy would best suit you based on the information you provide in your adoption form.

I watch the pups very closely from between the ages of 3-7 weeks, analyzing their behaviour and taking notes. This is when all those animal behaviour courses I've taken come in handy!

When the pups are about 7 weeks old, I do the final temperament test. By this time, I have a really good idea of where they fit in the litter. I can't tell you exactly what your dog is going to look like or act like when it gets older but by comparing the pups in a litter, by 7 weeks I have a good sense of which one will suit your situation.

Once the pups are 7 weeks old, I e-mail everyone who has reserved a pup from the litter to let you know which one(s) I think will suit you. At 8 weeks, you may pick up your puppy, or I will ship it to people who live far away.

At SwissRidge Kennels, we match you to your perfect puppy, focussing on temperament and coat type (for people with allergies).  We do not allow people to select puppies from a litter.  Basing such an important decision on which puppy is the cutest or seems the most outgoing on a particular day is a mistake.  Read the references to see how well my system works!

When can I see my puppy and can I visit the kennel?
I only allow visitors to my kennel on the day people pick up their puppies.  I am very concerned about preventing the spread of disease to my dogs.  I understand that many

people want to meet the parents and see the kennel before they purchase a puppy, but my first obligation as a breeder is to ensure happy, healthy dogs and I must take every measure possible to protect them.  To address any concerns you may have, I have included many references to my website, many of whom you may contact for more information about my dogs and kennel.

I also suggest joining the SwissRidge Kennel group on Facebook [link] to speak directly to our ever-expanding doodle “family.”

Do you have a contract?
Yes, please email me if you would like a copy.
Do you require the dog to be spayed/neutered?

Yes, every puppy needs to be spayed/neutered between 8-12 months of age. If you would like a dog for breeding, please let me know.  I do make exceptions in certain situations.

What is your health guarantee?

We guarantee the dog for two years against hip dysplasia or any hereditary disease. If your dog develops a hereditary disease that makes it unsuitable as a pet or in need of extended veterinary care, you will need to provide a  note from a board certified veterinarian and return your dog to us.  We will either replace the dog, or refund you half the purchase price of the pup to cover any extended veterinary care. This is the client’s choice.

Please note that puppies may pick up common parasites, such as Giardia, coccidia, roundworm etc. We do everything in our power to prevent these parasites by putting dogs and pups on a strict deworming program.  However, you still need to have your puppy checked by a vet to make sure it is clear of these parasites for your safety.

What currency do you accept?

Prices are in Canadian dollars. If you live in the United States you can send a US money order or bank draft for the Canadian equivalent + 3% as banks charge a service fee to convert it.

Do recommend pet insurance?

Yes, I think pet insurance is very important. Even though we do everything in our power to make sure you are getting a healthy puppy, accidents can happen. With every puppy I sell, I provide a sheet for a 30-day free trial of pet insurance. To sign up your puppy for this trial click on the link below.

What are your prices?

Please be aware that prices of goldendoodles vary widely. There are all sorts of breeders out there, and many of them do not do any health or temperament testing on their dogs. Remember that the dog you buy will become a lifetime family member and there's nothing worse than having a family member who is sick all the time. It is a “buyer beware” society, so as a buyer make sure you ask the breeder a lot of questions. Ask to see all the parents’ health certificates. Ask about the temperament of the parents. (Note: you can see the health certificates and a description of my dogs’ temperaments beside their names on the website).

Breeders should constantly try to improve the dogs they are breeding to make sure they are producing healthy puppies. If the parents have been tested for genetic disorders, it is less likely puppies will have a genetic defect.

Our prices reflect the effort we have put into enhancing our breeding program through genetic testing, researching lines thoroughly, importing dogs from all over Europe, and temperament testing all breeding stock before they enter our program. We only breed the best dogs to make sure you get a healthy, happy pup.

All prices are subject to applicable taxes.

Yes, we will ship your puppy for a flat rate of $495 (if shipped at 8 weeks) and $595 (for US citizens having their pups shipped at 16 weeks). This price includes airfare, a crate, transport fee's to the airport, booking fee's and an international health certificate. As far as I'm concerned shipping is safe.
All puppies that are going to the US that need a rabies vaccine will be charged an additional $65 for the rabies vaccine but we will supply all of the other DHPP vaccines free of charge.

We have been shipping puppies for many years and we've never had a problem. The airlines take great care of them and they always arrive safe and sound.  If you are in driving distance we would love to meet you.

Does the puppy have to be quarantined if I'm from the States?

Please read the US clients tab on the side menu.
